One thing that has always stood out in the series is the game models themselves, and this carries over well to the next-generation. SVR, on a HDTV in particular, looks stunning. Characters have full likeliness to their real-life counterparts, and now sweat realistically during a match. The difference between the 360 and current-generation versions is simply mind blowing in that respect. The same applies for the crowd and the general arena. All the crowd is fully 3D and every single model has a different animation at a different time. Stages, whilst not the most impressive thing to look at, have a nice depth-of-field effect going on and pyros stand out due to some impressive blooming effects.
Animations are also pretty decent, although there is a slight factor of laziness from Yukes, as a number of moves haven’t been re-animated for new hardware. The ones that have look really smooth, and transact well when doing chain maneuvers however. You can also pay the same compliment to wrestlers’ entrances, which are spot-on, right on down to the way Randy Orton arrogantly lifts his arms before a match.
I found the sound to be decent also, but the game suffers from some annoying grunts and groans from the wrestlers. It isn’t off-putting, but a small niggle on my part. Commentary is certainly better than last time round, but a lot of lines have simply been ported over to the 360 version, and this results in the commentators repeating themselves every five or so lines. Entrance music, thankfully, are all completely up to date, and this bodes well considering the rosters aren’t. It is always nice to hear full tracks too, which are accessible from the main menu.
Smackdown vs RAW 2007 is quite easily the most complete wrestling title you are ever likely to see. Yukes have gone all out for the next-generation offering, and have proved that it doesn’t take much to make the transaction into brand new hardware. The gameplay is fantastic, and visually I found the game to be equally impressive. It is going to be mighty difficult for Yukes to repeat what they have done in this iteration, to the next title in the series however. But if they can show the same effort and determination, I have no doubt they can make the next title even better than we can anticipate it to be.

No bad language at all, but there is a decent amount of blood in some matches. |
