At first glance, Rumble Roses XX seems like nothing more than girls...girls...and more girls. However, once you get past these gorgeous visuals (if you ever get to that point,) there is actually an enjoyable wrestling game here. Rumble Roses XX is the sequel to Rumble Roses that was available on the Playstation 2. This sequel for the Xbox 360 furthers the series by adding a number of new wrestling types, online play via Xbox Live, and of course the improved character models!
Gameplay
To start off, you may be a little confused because there is no story mode in this game. It's more like, just get in the ring and go at it! By winning matches you increase your character's popularity and gain cash to use in the shop. Your popularity seems quite useless. After about four matches your popularity can already be built up to 100%, so this pretty much ruins the whole point of it. After you complete your popularity you will probably get confused again on what you are trying to do in this game, or how you actually beat it. The answer is still, basically, get in the ring and go at it!
After you randomly play in an assortment of matches, you will finally gain access to something that makes you feel like you are getting further into the game. After meeting a number of certain conditions you will be able to participate in a Title Match. After beating the Title Match, you earn the "Champion" title. After this is done, you get to do it all over again with 20 other characters! If you haven't noticed already, there is absolutely no storyline or a real sense accomplishment while playing this game, you pretty much just have fun with the different gameplay types.
It is a let down that there seems to be almost no means of accomplishment, but there is a fairly good fighting game with lots of gameplay types and online play. The different modes of fighting are: Single, Pure Humiliation, Tag, Handicap, 3-Way Royal, 4-Way Royal, Street Fight, and a Queen's match. Matches like single (1 on 1), tag, and 3/4-way royal (or free-for-all) are pretty much self explanatory. The unique modes here are: Pure Humiliation Match (PHM), Handicap, Street Fight, and Queen's match. A PHM is a one-on-one fight where you must win by performing an H-Move (or humiliation move, see next paragraph for explanation.) Handicap matches don't allow for increased abilities in anyone, but instead squares players off in a 1 vs. 2 match. A Street Fight is a normal singles match, however the best two out of three matches wins the overall fight. The most interesting match of them all, the Queen's match, fits this game very well. In a Queen's match, which takes place on a special Island Resort stage, the loser has to play a penalty game. The penalty games include things such as tickling, limbo, gymnastic exercises, numerous poses, and many others. This is your reward for winning the match and it is definitely worth fighting for! More penalty games are available in the shop to purchase.
The combat system takes a good amount of time to learn completely. With attacking, grabbing, reversals, lethal moves, killer moves, and much more, it can be a little overwhelming at first. Because of this a tutorial was included right into the game that tells you about a sort of move and then gives you an example of it in action. This will probably be the first place you will want to check out in the game to make sure you know what you are doing. Besides the basic attacks, grappling moves, and actions, the main heavy attacks are the lethal moves, killer moves, H-moves, and the Double X moves. In order to use any of these four special moves, you have to build up your finishing move gauge. Once it is filled once you can execute one of these moves, or you can save up a few of them and the gauge will keep count. Killer moves are very powerful moves that are used frequently to finish up the match. Lethal moves can only be executed when the opponent is in a certain position. H-moves can only be used when an opponent is humiliated, or groggy, from previous attacks. The Double X Moves are by far the most excited, because it is a finishing move during a tag team match where both tag teammates get in on the action.
Rumble Roses XX offers a lot when it comes to extras and connectivity over Xbox Live. To start off, there are a huge amount of extras located in the shop. There are tons of outfits that you can unlock for each and every character, new things to do such as the photo shoot, and fun things to play around with like the penalty games used in the Queen's matches.
Xbox Live offers online multiplayer with all the various gameplay types that are possible in single player, plus a little extra. Players can upload and download images that they have created in the photo shoot mode of the game. The photo shoot mode allows players to pick one to two characters, their clothes, a number of location backgrounds, and best of all, how they pose for the camera. This mode works very similar to Project Gotham Racing 3's camera mode; only these shots can only be taken in the photo shoot mode and not actual gameplay. There are also numerous options for the photo shoot which allow you to do functions similar to that on a digital camera and also things such as borders around the image. This is a fun little extra for the game and it is great to play around with and see what others are creating as well. While downloading most other's images, you can easily tell that they are trying for the sexiest poses and the game allows this to the extreme. Should there be an extra centimeter where a piece of clothing doesn't stretch to, this game would be slapped with the adult rating, so you can imagine how close to nude some of these images are.
Graphics
Obviously, the best aspect of the graphics in this game are the character models and you can tell lots of time was put into them to look great. Animations are also very well done and all of the moves look realistic. Other than that, there is nothing really great about anything else. There are only four different environments that you can play in, which is a big let down.
Audio
Except for in the character introductions, there is not really a good use of sounds in the game. The only dialogs during matches are taunts. Sound effects, like cracking bones, sound extremely unrealistic for some reason. Other sound effects are just mediocre. Overall, the audio is lacking, but doesn’t seem to be that important in a game like this.
Overall
Rumble Roses XX features ton of girl eye candy in many different forms. Whether it is in the normal gameplay, in a photo shoot, or a silly penalty game, there are lots of curves and very little skin that is left unrevealed. When you want to see some skin, who buys a video game? And when you want a top of the line fighting game who would buy a game such as this one? Instead you get a mix of both. Decent women, due only to the fact that they are computer animated, and a decent fighting game. If you are fine with these two things and think they go great together, pick this game up and you will enjoy it. If this sounds like mixing milk and orange juice together...well you don't want a taste!
