Project Gotham, being available at the launch of the Xbox, and then a second Gotham in 2004, has become the most popular original racing games on the Xbox. Besides the fact that Forza has recently stolen some of its fame, Project Gotham will be coming back once again for an Xbox 360 release.
Believe it or not, an image from Project Gotham Racing 3 was actually released before the official announcement of the Xbox 360. An image appeared on OurColony.net showing off in extreme detail, the front end of a red sports car. It was quite obvious that this image was just giving gamers a taste of what is to come with Xbox 360 and the new Project Gotham game. (The OurColony.net website was a website that Microsoft used to hype up the console before the unveiling.)
Just like almost all of the other Xbox 360 games, very little is known about the new Project Gotham. In fact, there has only been two videos shown for the game and two screen shots have just been released, and nothing else has been said or shown. One of the videos was shown on the MTV Xbox 360 unveiling, and the other was shown at this year’s E3. The video from the MTV unveiling shows actual gameplay footage of two high end sports cars in a race. Based on the video, you can tell that the new game is going to be using the powerful new console to render some of the best looking graphics ever seen on any game console. The car models look extremely realistic and very detailed. The physics engine looks very in-depth and realistic and small effects like dust on the track is sure to add to the realism and overall feel of the game.
The second Project Gotham Racing 3 video was shown at the E3 and does not appear to be actual game graphics. It looks as if it is something that could be used for the intro of the game. The video displays three cars racing through a city of some sort. The three cars are introduced and then they duel it out through a number of corners. The racing is fast and intense but the video ends shortly thereafter displaying the new PGR3 logo and the slogan "Life Begins at 170". Since this video does not appear to be actual gameplay footage, there is not much we can conclude from it, besides the fact that the racing will fast and furious.
Just recently, the official Project Gotham Racing 3 website was updated and tells a little behind-the-scenes info about the team (Bizarre Creations) that are developing the game. The new site features a little about the game’s audio, two new screenshots, a little history and a behind-the-scenes look at the game. However, several sections of the site are still not open such as game features, interviews, a list of tracks, cars, and a section titled "style" (kudos?).
The site mentions a little about the new "spectator mode" and has said that with GothamTV, players will be able to watch some of the best online races in real-time. It also says that you will be able to track your friend’s achievements "via the GothamTV ticker tape news feed".
Other than that, no real new information about Project Gotham Racing 3 has been released. Hopefully the new sections of the site will open soon and we will be able to learn a little more about this game.
Overall, Project Gotham Racing 3 appears that it may be the hottest racing game to date when the Xbox 360 console releases. It’s going to be running on a brand new console, which means the graphics are going to be insane and the 360 will be able to handle anything the high-end sports cars are willing to throw at it. PGR3 will be playable on the new Xbox Live which means once you finish up the campaign mode, there will be people online waiting for you to take them on. If you are any kind of Xbox racing fan, you know this is going to be one of the first games you purchase with your new system.
