In terms of vehicles, Halo 3 has only revealed one new one so far, the Mongoose. Those who are devoted Halo 2 fans will remember that the Mongoose (an ATV) was meant to be a part of Halo 2, as the human Ghost-like vehicle. While it didn’t make it into Halo 2, Bungie clearly thought there was something special about this vehicle and has brought it back for Halo 3. The Mongoose comes with no weapons, but is extremely fast, and can seat two (with the rider firing his weapon if possible). CTF matches are going to get a whole lot more interesting now that Ghosts are no longer the fastest machines on the map.
With these new vehicles Bungie opted to include a better anti-vehicle weapon. Known as the Spartan laser, this rocket launcher type firearm is not only deadly, but a blast to use. Any vehicle hit by this weapon’s red hot laser beam instantly gets destroyed. The catch is though, that gamers will have to aim the weapon and keep it trained on the vehicle for a certain amount of time since the Spartan Laser needs to warm up before it is unleashed. Needless to say, multiplayer is going to be just as fun, but a heck of a lot different.
Probably the biggest mysery about Halo 3 is the storyline. We do know there has been a power shift in the Covenant ranks, and this has, in result, formed a very fragile alliance between the humans and Elites. We also know that the Prophets are still madly after the goal of activating the Halo rings from the massive Ark facility located on Earth. Does this mean the Arbiter is going to make a return as a playable character? We can’t say now, but since the general reaction of fans was that they wanted to play Chief the whole way through, and Halo 3 seems to be in the train of thought of pleasing the fans, we can speculate that the Arbiter is not going to be playable. Perhaps at most he will take the role of Johnson, a character which can't die and will always fight beside the Chief.
Either way Halo 3 is going to be a monumental release for the Xbox 360 come next November. With three versions of the game available for pre-order, fans have plenty of options when it comes to Halo 3. Until then we must sit and wait, and oh man does waiting stink this time around.
