Prepare for World War II action once again, but this time THQ and Relic entertainment will be doing it their way. The Outfit will have a fictional story line and be classified as a pure action game, so do not expect it to be anything like Call of Duty. The Outfit will focus on a third-person perspective with squad micro-management elements.
In The Outfit, you play one of three heroes, which are the Stealthy J.D. Tyler, Deuce Williams the anti-tank specialist, or the bullet spraying Tommy Mac. The heroes have their own set of weapons. Tyler is the sneaky sniper; Tommy sprays bullets with his machine gun or he can heat things up with his flamethrower. Deuce, specializes in taking out vehicles with bazookas and sticky bombs. You will be joined by four squad mates who will help you with each mission objective. Squad mates will also help with cover fire and other various tasks that you give them.
Single and Multiplayer
Relic is working hard on both single and multi-player aspects of the game. Relic understands that console players want a compelling story in the single-player campaign. In the single-player campaign you will have opportunities to earn medals, will have objectives to meet, and will have various options such as calling in infantry, commanding vehicles, or sending out scouts to spy on the enemy. Relic will also be implementing a hero system that will enable players to switch from squad to squad.
The game will have plenty of missions to accomplish. There are the primary missions that are accomplished as you play the game, and you will also get secondary missions that you can do to earn medals. There will be over 35 medals to collect in the single-player campaign and you can unlock more in the multiplayer campaign.
The multiplayer game promises to keep Xbox Live fans excited. The player can choose from a variety of Co-Op and team based multiplayer modes. In versus mode, 8 players can battle it out simultaneously online or two players can go head-to-head on one Xbox 360 using a split screen mode. In Co-Op, 2 players can try and tackle the campaigns as teammates over Live Online or split screen mode. Relic will be keeping the game fresh by offering downloadable content over Xbox Live such as – new maps, new character skins, new vehicle graphics and much more will be offered.
Graphics
The graphics will have a slight cartoon look, straying away from realistic approach of other war games such as Call of Duty 2. The Outfit will be bright, with colorful backgrounds, blue skies, and moving clouds.
The environments will be completely destructible. If you call in an air strike on a building, the building will crumble and completely collapse while also causing damage to nearby objects. If you see it, then it can be destroyed. Virtually everything can be completely destroyed; the landscapes are massive so you will have plenty of buildings, bridges, fences, walls, and much more to have fun blowing up.
The Outfit will use the Havok 3.0 engine and rag-doll physics for realistic body movements. The game will have a feel of realism as you play and you will see the action unfold very realistically.
Be smart and use strategies
You can come up with many strategies in the game such as using binoculars to spy on enemies from miles away and plan a sneak attack or come up with plans to distract the enemy while leading another squad for a secondary attack.
Relic has put in a system that will enable players to earn Action Points. Action Points are the player’s rewards for each kill and can even be earned by taking enemy fire. When you earn enough Action Points you can purchase one of 20 vehicles, full arsenal of weapons for your troops, and call in air strikes.
When’s the Release?
The estimated release date is February 2006 and The Outfit is shaping up to be a top notch action game. Relic is best known for developing hit games such as Homeworld, Homeworld: cataclysm, Homeworld 2, Imposible Creatures, and the new hit Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. If anyone knows the action genre, it would have to be Relic Entertainment and The Outfit will be their new hit title.
